The pieces I create are a mix of art and science. Earth sciences such as geology and marine biology have always served as my springboards into other worlds—their persistent themes of life and timelessness allow me to create art forms that connect to our ancient past, and at times, can force us to look toward the future.
I have a methodology that I use to create my Art: accurate research of the subject followed by using the correct chemical media compounds that can make each piece come into being. In many cases, I've created or have “doctored” existing media to help me achieve my goals. Among my favorite media are latex, modeling paste, lucite, and clear acryl-resin that I often will tint with oil-based paint to create what I've termed as: polychroma resin. This whole process can resemble Artistic Alchemy at times. It's a process that allows to me to play with materials. When I work, I'm like a potter, a sculptor, and a painter all at the same time.
My Artwork caries the recognition of the natural environment, yet clearly is conventionalized to the point of abstraction. While each piece can stand on its own, they have been used in groups to provide strong testimony to the authority that is Nature.
