Charles Jos Biviano is a noted artist living in Richmond, Virginia. He is the recent recipient of The Best Of America Artist Award for 2009. Jos was born in New York City, 1957. He received his Bachelor of Arts from the Virginia Military Institute in 1979, and subsequently entered military service as a commissioned officer where he traveled and experienced the world. After military service, Jos received his Master of Architecture degree from the University of Texas at Austin and pursued a career as a designer where he specializes in total environmental design. Jos continues to design exclusively for an award winning, nationally recognized architecture firm. From an early age, Jos was fascinated by form, color and texture as well as natural events and how they shaped the history of humankind. His paintings glorify Nature and evoke the transcendental images celebrated by the nineteenth-century Hudson River and Luminist Schools of Art. Jos's landscape paintings are marked by forceful and dramatic displays of light & shadow, intense color, and Turner-like atmospheric effects. Jos enjoys painting landscapes bathed in late afternoon sunlight when color harmonies are most pronounced. His love of landscape stems from having lived in many beautiful areas of the country, including many years in the desert Southwest, the Great Plains States, and most recently the MidAtlantic region. Although he works predominantly in oil, Jos also enjoys gouache and acrylic media.
Jos's work is celebrated throughout the US and abroad. His paintings are widely exhibited and hang in many private and corporate collections.
